Standing for Truth and Justice

These are vultures.
Who in chapter 15 could we compare them to?

Today's Goal: Analyze Atticus' character motivations through close reading and by writing a two-chunk paragraph.

The Plan:

Two Chunk Paragraph

We will be reading a short passage together today, annotating as we go. Remember last time we did annotations, and we responded whenever and wherever we could?

We annotate to:

REACT to the story
ASK questions
RESPOND to the character's actions or choices or statements
DEFINE words we don't know
REPHRASE writing in our own words
There are lots of others. These are just some examples.

Gradebook Explained

My grade book is on School Loop for you to view. There are some things you need to know that will hopefully clarify possible confusion.

M = Minimum Grade, and may not be made up. An M is worth 30% of the total points available for an assignment, and is given to smaller assignments when not completed by the due date. This is a department criteria and policy.

Blank scores mean I have not graded it yet; there is no reason to panic.

Zeroes are the most concerning. These occur when students do not turn in assignments that they are expected to submit. Regardless of when it is due, students are expected to complete the assignment, and will receive credit according to department policy. For example, if a student is absent, and a zero is recorded, that should not indicate to the student that the assignment is unable to be submitted. If, though, it was turned in late, there is a likelihood of receiving Minimum (but still partial!) Credit, as department policy dictates that we do not accept late work.

Please remember: regardless of what is currently recorded, grades are not always permanent.

Sometimes a score given on a minor assignment is not ideal. For students willing to put in the work, they are welcome to talk with me about redoing certain assignments.
