For your final you will be tested on multiple reading and writing skills. With a new article you must be able to do the following on your own:
Annotate to find claims, counterclaims, rebuttals, and evidence.

Write a rhetorical precis
Write an on-demand (in class) essay.
(Many of these will be done next week)
Today in class:
Practice writing a rhetorical precis about Undercover Parent. You know the article very well by now so this should not be hard. Write in your English Journal.

Charting the Text
Goal: Charting the Text of "Self-Fulfilling Stereotypes" to better understand what the author is saying and doing with the text.

- Open the Self-Fulfilling Stereotypes essay in your Google Drive.
- Work with your partner and your group to complete the charting the text activity. This is where you spend time looking at specific paragraphs to identify how Vedantam is making his argument!

Charting the Text
Alright, so we're not done with James McBride's article yet. Every time you read it, there is more to be found and understood and expanded upon. All of these activities will help you with the writing assignment you're going to get.
Homework: Stylistic Analysis. Tonight you will look closely at the word choices McBride makes in his essay. (If you are absent email me and I will send you this to complete at home.)
Today we're going to focus on how McBride has structured the text. I will give you a sheet in class (paper?!?!) to guide your analysis. It is due before the end of class today.
