Healthy Kids Survey and More Writing!

You have new seats. They are not permanent.

Today we have to take a required survey that all 9th-grade students are taking. Then you will be able to continue writing the body paragraphs for your essay.

The Plan:

Read!
Take the CA Health Survey (I'll give you the link and the access code in class.)
When you're finished, work on your essay (you should have three complete body paragraphs!) or read.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE:

On Tuesday, March 17, you will no longer have access to your essay. You will not be able to edit it. You will not be able to turn it in late.

Revision requests will only be accepted if you completed your essay.

Important Dates:

Monday, March 16 - Comparative Analysis Essays are due
Wednesday, April 8 - Your next book review is due!

Gradebook Explained

My grade book is on School Loop for you to view. There are some things you need to know that will hopefully clarify possible confusion.

M = Minimum Grade, and may not be made up. An M is worth 30% of the total points available for an assignment, and is given to smaller assignments when not completed by the due date. This is a department criteria and policy.

Blank scores mean I have not graded it yet; there is no reason to panic.

Zeroes are the most concerning. These occur when students do not turn in assignments that they are expected to submit. Regardless of when it is due, students are expected to complete the assignment, and will receive credit according to department policy. For example, if a student is absent, and a zero is recorded, that should not indicate to the student that the assignment is unable to be submitted. If, though, it was turned in late, there is a likelihood of receiving Minimum (but still partial!) Credit, as department policy dictates that we do not accept late work.

Please remember: regardless of what is currently recorded, grades are not always permanent.

Sometimes a score given on a minor assignment is not ideal. For students willing to put in the work, they are welcome to talk with me about redoing certain assignments.
